\nUit onderzoek van Nest Labs blijkt dat 8 op de 10 van de Nederlandse huishoudens is uitgerust met minstens \u00e9\u00e9n rookmelder, maar dat 4 op de 5 zijn rookmelder niet maandelijks test. Dat terwijl zeker 45% van de rookmelders in Nederland niet werkt, volgens een rapport van de IFV (Brandacademie). Bovendien is het verontrustend dat meer dan de helft (53%) niet weet hoe hij zijn huis moet ontvluchten in het geval van brand.<\/p>\n

Om inzicht te krijgen in de situatie in Nederland vroeg Nest, in samenwerking met onderzoeksbureau YouGov voorafgaand aan de Nationale Brandpreventieweken, die op oktober 2015 van start zijn gegaan, aan 1001 Nederlandse volwassenen naar hun kennis en houding over brand- en koolmonoxideveiligheid.<\/p>\n

Koolmonoxide, een vijand om in de gaten te houden
\n<\/u>Koolmonoxidemelders zijn nog niet wettelijk verplicht gesteld, hoewel er jaarlijks 1005 mensen gewond raken en 10 mensen het leven laten door koolmonoxidevergiftiging. Hoewel drie kwart van de respondenten van het Nest onderzoek correct antwoordde dat blootstelling aan koolmonoxide dodelijke gevolgen kan hebben, gaf bijna 70% van de respondenten toe niet over een koolmonoxide alarm te beschikken.<\/p>\n

Verontrustend is ook dat bijna \u00e9\u00e9n op de vier Nederlanders denkt dat een koolmonoxidelek te herkennen is aan een opvallende geur en dat meer dan \u00e9\u00e9n op de tien denkt dat koolmonoxide een zichtbaar gas is. Beide beweringen zijn onjuist en er is dan ook een duidelijke noodzaak voor goede educatie.<\/p>\n
