\"\"Als je naar definities van innovatie kijkt, gaat het altijd om vernieuwing. Maar dat hoeft zeker niet het nieuwste van het nieuwste te zijn: dat zijn uitvindingen. Bij innovatie gaat het om het toepassen van vernieuwingen. En dan ook nog succesvol. Dus, iets dat daadwerkelijk wordt toegepast. Overigens gaat het bij innovatie niet alleen om producten. Het kan ook om vernieuwing van de dienstverlening of aanpassing van bedrijfsprocessen gaan. En zelfs om vernieuwing van het business model.
\nDenk daarbij maar eens aan Signify. Voor een deel verkoopt deze \u2018lampen leverancier\u2019 verlichting in plaats van lampen. Een dergelijk nieuw business model waarbij je geen producten verkoopt maar tegen een maandelijks bedrag zorgt dat er zoals bij Signify licht is, noemen we \u2018servitisering\u2019.
\nMaar dit is zeker niet de enige manier om innovatief te zijn als bedrijf. Dat ben je ook als je de interne processen beter afstemt op ontwikkelingen op de markt. Denk daarbij bijvoorbeeld aan het optimaliseren van processen om faalkosten terug te dringen of beter nog: te voorkomen.
\nBelangrijke termen bij innovatie zijn dus: vernieuwen, toepassen en succesvol zijn. Dat laatste betekent in het voorbeeld van de faalkosten dat de vernieuwing die is bedacht en doorgevoerd, ook leidt tot aantoonbare lagere foutmarges en kosten van fouten.
\nOm innovatief te zijn, hoef je echt niet als bedrijf het meest vooruitstrevende te zijn en een aantal \u2018Willy Wortels\u2019 in dienst te hebben. Je moet wel als bedrijf open staan voor vernieuwing en aan een aantal voorwaarden voldoen.
