Een PVC waterleiding gemaakt met gebruikt frituurvet, houtpulp of resten van suikerriet als basisgrondstof. Voor het eerst in Nederland gaat zo\u2019n biobased waterleiding in het Brabantse Oirschot de grond in. \u201cDe buis is qua samenstelling gezien exact hetzelfde als de standaard PVC leiding, maar de grondstoffen zijn allemaal biobased,\u201d aldus Hanneke van de Ven, directeur distributie bij Brabant Water. \u201cMet dit project willen we de weg vrijmaken naar meer duurzame en biobased materialen in de watersector.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zowel bij Brabant Water als bij leverancier Pipelife staat duurzaamheid hoog in het vaandel. Ook voor het drinkwaterleidingnet zoekt Brabant Water naar duurzame opties. De kansen voor gerecycled PVC zijn onderzocht, maar dat bleek niet aan de hoge eisen voor waterleidingen te voldoen. De volgende stap om te experimenteren met duurzamere leidingen, was om te kijken naar de mogelijkheden voor biobased materialen. Zo kwam Brabant Water samen met leverancier Pipelife op het spoor van deze biobased leiding, die wordt toegepast bij een nieuwbouwproject in Oirschot.<\/p>\n

Verduurzamen productportfolio
\n<\/strong>Voor Pipelife Nederland is het project in Oirschot de eerste toepassing van biobased leidingen. Pipelife heeft zich niet alleen ten doel gesteld haar energieverbruik op structurele wijze te verlagen en de energie-efficiency van haar processen te verbeteren, ook is het volop bezig met het verduurzamen van het productportfolio. Nieuwe technieken maken buizen lichter, reduceren de hoeveelheid uitval en verhogen de output, waardoor de energiebelasting per geproduceerde kilo daalt. Ook zet Pipelife steeds meer gerecyclede grondstoffen in om tot circulaire producten te komen. Het doel is om voor 2030 30% gerecycled materiaal toe te passen.<\/p>\n

Verduurzaming van PVC leidingen
\n<\/strong>Het verduurzamen van de PVC leidingen is een belangrijke ontwikkeling voor Pipelife. Voor de productie van de biobased leidingen zijn de gebruikte grondstoffen voor het PVC niet afkomstig uit fossiele bron (aardolie), maar uit hernieuwbare bronnen, zoals suikerriet of houtpulp en uit gebruikt frituurvet. Suikerriet en bomen nemen CO2 op bij hun groei en bij de verwerking tot kunststof komt deze CO2 weer vrij. De netto CO2-besparing kan oplopen tot wel 90%. Aart Jan van der Meijden, algemeen directeur van Pipelife Nederland: \u201cAls de watersector de handen ineenslaat en de ambitie uitspreekt vol te gaan voor biobased materialen, kunnen we echt impact maken door deze ontwikkeling te helpen versnellen. Op dit moment zijn biobased materialen nog wel duurder dan \u2018conventionele\u2019 materialen, maar we verwachten dat als de vraag toeneemt de markt zich snel zal ontwikkelen en de prijzen zullen dalen.\u201d<\/p>\n
