Het bestaande warmtenet is er \u00e9\u00e9n van de eerste generatie, dus nog volledig gasgestookt. Het draait nu nog op twee stoom- en gasturbines (STEG\u2019s), waarin bij verbranding van gas, elektriciteit wordt opgewekt. Rob Verhappen, key accountmanager bij Ennatuurlijk: \u201cWe gaan de gasturbines voorlopig wel behouden, maar dat zal in de toekomst alleen zijn voor piekmomenten of storingen. Het aardgas hiervoor zal dan op termijn vervangen moeten worden door bijvoorbeeld biogas of waterstof. Andere innovatieve bronnen, zoals aquathermie of lokale warmte uit de industrie, hebben in Helmond de \u00e9chte toekomst.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ennatuurlijk onderzoekt momenteel de mogelijkheid om warmte uit het oppervlaktewater van de Zuid-Willemsvaart te halen. Met aquathermie slaat een warmte\/koudeopslag (WKO) in de zomer warmte uit het water op in de bodem, om die in de winter te kunnen gebruiken. Hoewel de technologie niet meer helemaal nieuw is, is het in de Benelux nog niet zo groot toegepast als Ennatuurlijk het wil gaan doen. \u201cAquathermie heeft veel voordelen\u201d, aldus Rob Verhappen. \u201cHet gebruikt bijvoorbeeld relatief weinig stroom om de warmte te onttrekken, en het heeft ecologisch weinig impact.\u201d Volgens hem kan een goede toepassing van all\u00e9\u00e9n aquathermie al 50 procent CO2-reductie betekenen voor de warmtevraag in Helmond. \u201cDe benodigde elektriciteit willen we graag zo veel mogelijk duurzaam opwekken. En het is niet de enige bron die we voor de toekomst voor ogen hebben.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andere lokale bronnen van warmte<br \/>\n<\/strong>Verspreid over heel Nederland haalt Ennatuurlijk op veel verschillende manieren warmte uit de omgeving. Warmte uit de industrie bijvoorbeeld, waar vrijgekomen warmte uit bijvoorbeeld lokale industri\u00eble processen het warmtenet voeden, is voor Helmond \u00f3\u00f3k een optie. \u201cMaar ook ondiepe aardwarmte belooft veel goeds voor de toekomst\u201d, zegt Verhappen. \u201cWe willen tot 2040 flink groeien. Niet alleen in Helmond, maar in heel Nederland. Het is daarom goed om te zien hoeveel duurzame innovaties er ontstaan om alternatieve energiebronnen aan te boren.
