Het RIVM Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu\u00a0 adviseert installaties met een verhoogd risico om, in afwachting van verder onderzoek, alvast (tijdelijke) maatregelen te nemen om verspreiding van Legionella te voorkomen. Bijvoorbeeld door het afdekken van risicovolle beluchtingsbassins en beschermingsmaatregelen voor medewerkers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sinds 2012 neemt het aantal pati\u00ebnten met legionella in Nederland toe. De legionellabacterie kan onder andere veteranenziekte (ernstige longontsteking) veroorzaken. In 2018 waren er 584 pati\u00ebnten met longontsteking door legionella in Nederland. Meestal kan niet achterhaald worden waar de ziekteverwekkers vandaan komen. Maar de afgelopen jaren zijn een aantal pati\u00ebnten ziek geworden door het inademen van legionellabacteri\u00ebn die waarschijnlijk uit een afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallatie komen. Het RIVM Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu\u00a0 en Omgevingsdiensten onderzoeken daarom bij hoeveel afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallaties legionella vrij zou kunnen komen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Risicovolle installaties<br \/>\n<\/strong>De omgevingsdiensten hebben het aantal industri\u00eble afvalwaterzuiveringen ge\u00efnventariseerd en Stowa Foundation for Applied Water Research\u00a0 (kenniscentrum voor de waterschappen) het aantal rioolwaterzuiveringsinstallaties. Er zijn in totaal 709 installaties in kaart gebracht, waarvan 382 industri\u00eble afvalwaterzuiveringen en 327 rioolwaterzuiveringsinstallaties. Het RIVM heeft een literatuurstudie gedaan. Op basis daarvan is bepaald wanneer groei van legionella in de installatie en verspreiding naar de omgeving het meest aannemelijk is. Het gaat om:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>een biologisch zuiveringsproces;<\/li>\n<li>het verwerken van (voor bacteri\u00ebn) voedselrijk afvalwater;<\/li>\n<li>een temperatuur van het afvalwater tussen de 30 en 38 graden Celsius;<\/li>\n<li>beluchting van het afvalwater.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallaties die deze eigenschappen hebben, vormen daarmee een verhoogd risico op groei en verspreiding van legionella. Bij 81 afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallaties kunnen deze eigenschappen aanwezig zijn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tijdelijke maatregelen<br \/>\n<\/strong>Op basis van voorlopige resultaten heeft het RIVM een deskundigenberaad georganiseerd. Het deskundigenberaad adviseert om waar nodig, tijdelijke maatregelen te nemen die verspreiding van legionella tegen gaan. De belangrijkste is zorgen dat open waterbassins met beluchting afgedekt zijn, zodat legionella niet naar de omgeving verspreidt. In het water dat uit de zuivering komt, kunnen nog legionellabacteri\u00ebn zitten. Daarom is het belangrijk om gezuiverd afvalwater niet te gebruiken voor werkzaamheden of processen waarbij dit water verneveld wordt. Bijvoorbeeld bij schoonmaakwerkzaamheden op het bedrijf.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bescherming noodzakelijk<br \/>\n<\/strong>Daarnaast is het belangrijk om te zorgen voor goede bescherming van medewerkers. Hiervoor is het noodzakelijk medewerkers voor te lichten over het gebruik van persoonlijke beschermingsmiddelen (zoals mond-neusmaskers) en hen informatie te geven wat zij kunnen doen bij klachten. Verder onderzoek is nodig om te bepalen welke permanente aanpassingen in afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallaties mogelijke verspreiding van legionella kunnen tegen gaan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-23466-0-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-23466-0-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget panel-first-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><\/div><div id=\"panel-23466-0-1-1\" class=\"so-panel widget panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-23466-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-23466-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell panel-grid-cell-empty\" ><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Nederland is bij 81 afvalwaterzuiveringsinstallaties mogelijk een verhoogd risico op verspreiding van legionella naar de omgeving.
